ANDREA
OHNMACHT, CMT
I
have been a massage therapist since 2002 and
I love my work! I primarily use Swedish, Deep
Swedish, Lymphatic, and Sports Massage, but
I often integrate Reiki into my sessions. 1
- 1 1/2
hour Reiki appointments are also available.
I especially enjoy performing Lymphatic Massage
as it effectively assists with chronic or serious
health conditions such as persistent allergies,
post-mastectomy healing and immune system concerns.
Recently, I incorporated Raindrop Technique
into my work, using pure, therapeutic-grade
essential oils. I joined Heritage Oak Healing
Arts Center in August of 2004. My goal is to
create a peaceful, nurturing environment so
my clients can relax and unwind. You don’t
need a health challenge to have a massage.
Just
Because... Massage.

GREG
EMERSON, CMT
I
became certified as a massage therapist in March
of 1990 and started my practice on a part time
basis. In 1994, I returned to school to learn
Polarity and Acupressure. In March of 1995 I
completed advanced training in Acupressure and
I began working full time as a massage therapist.
In August of 1995, I moved my practice to Heritage
Oak Healing Arts Center. Since joining the center
I have taken classes in Deep Tissue, Tantric,
and Lymphatic Massage, as well as Positional
Release. By combining the techniques that I
have learned with my natural intuitive skill,
my work has evolved into a highly intergrated,
therapeutic approach to bodywork.

TOOLS
OF THE TRADE:
INTEGRATED
SWEDISH MASSAGE - employs a combination
of different strokes, vigorous rocking, stretching
and percussion to tone skin and muscles and
stretch contracted tissue. Secondarily, it stimulates
the circulatory system. This massage is usually
used for general relaxation and to ease tension.
DEEP TISSUE
MASSAGE - Although similar to Swedish
Massage, Deep Tissue involves a much firmer
touch and slower stroke. It may also include
more stretching and the use of more advanced
techniques such as Positional Release and (PNF)
Proprioceptor Neuromuscular Facilitation. Deep
Tissue massage is often used to relieve pain
and release toxins from the tissues and organs
as well as to increase circulation to sore or
stiff muscles. The recipient may also experience
emotional release from this type of work.
LYMPHATIC
MASSAGE - increases lymphatic circulation
through the body’s natural filtration
system. This stimulates detoxification and supports
greater health and vitality. Under normal conditions,
2 to 3 liters of lymph fluid circulate through
the body daily. A lymphatic massage can move
as much as 30 liters of lymph and can double
the production of white blood cells. It also
relieves pain from nerve inflammation, tissue
congestion, and poor circulation. This is a
modality that would be very beneficial for anyone
who is under stress, has suffered an injury,
has been ill or inactive, or is preparing for
surgery.
Conditions
that respond positively to lymphatic massage
include:
-
poor circulation
- swelling
from injury or surgery
- joint
inflammation, depressed immune response
- chronic
colds with sinus and or ear infections
- menstrual
problems, post-mastectomy concerns
- allergies
- chronic
fatigue
- skin
problems
- digestive
problems
- depression
and insomnia
ACUPRESSURE
– A non-invasive, non-toxic, painless
therapy for redirecting, restoring, and balancing
the Chi energy-flow using finger pressure rather
then needles. In addition to applying this technique
to the 14 major energy meridians, five-element
theory can also be used to identify deficient
and excessive energy patterns, thus enabling
the practitioner to enhance the balance of the
Chi energy.
POSITIONAL
RELEASE – incorporates
the subtleties of Orthobionomy with gentle
stretching and massage to release tight
and sore muscles, tendons, and ligaments.
The general concept is that the brain
controls the tension level of all muscles
in the body. When a muscle is tight, the
brain is sending an increased contraction
signal to that muscle. By gently doing
what the muscle wants to do (contracting
or tightening the muscle even more) and
holding it for a period of 10 seconds
to a minute or two, the brain recognizes
that the muscle is tight and stops sending
the contraction signal. The muscle then
relaxes. This technique is effective at
releasing most tension around joints.
It works especially well for shoulder
strains, neck tension, tight forearms,
and tight backs. |

TANTRIC
MASSAGE – This is similar to
Swedish massage, in that it is a lighter touch
and can incorporate some rocking and light stretching.
The difference is that the touch is often even
lighter, anywhere from feather-light to medium-firm
and the strokes are very slow, often traveling
the whole length of the body. This can be a
very relaxing massage and quite sensual. It
is intended to put clients in touch with the
more subtle ways that they like to be touched.
It can be received passively, i.e. the client
just receives the massage without giving any
direction to the therapist, or it can be received
more interactively. In this case, the client
would give specific direction to the therapist,
i.e. “slow down the stroke more”,
“go lighter or firmer”, “work
that area more”. This method can be learned
in a safe, non-threatening environment and then
taken back to the client’s romantic relationship
to be incorporated as part of their intimate
play.
SPORTS
MASSAGE – heals old injuries
and helps prevent new ones. This type of massage
also helps alleviate post-workout soreness -
great while training for big events and everyday
physical activities.
REIKI
– A method of flowing universal
energy through the body to heal where needed
and to clear blocked or stagnant areas. Reiki
may be incorporated in a regular massage or
offered as a complete session on its own.
RAINDROP
TECHNIQUE – A safe, non-invasive
approach that helps to balance the body and
spine using pure, therapeutic-grade essential
oils. It is based on the idea that “many
types of scoliosis and spinal misalignments
are caused by viruses or bacteria that lie dormant
along the spine. These pathogens create inflammation,
which, in turn, contorts and disfigures the
spinal column.” Raindrop Technique uses
light, feathered finger-stroking to assist the
body in “correcting defects in the curvature
of the spine by utilizing the antiviral, antibacterial,
and anti-inflammatory action of several key
essential oils.” Practitioners have found
RT useful for “sciatica, scoliosis, kyphosis,
and chronic back pain.” It may also be
beneficial in other cases of chronic, recurrent
infection, such as in herpes zoster (shingles),
and in ameliorating the long-term effects of
live vaccines, for example the oral polio vaccine.

Massage is a uniquely personal experience of
being touched in a positive, safe, nurturing
way. Touch is a basic need that connects us
with others and our selves. A massage session
